THE AVENGERS - banners

New AVENGERS banners have been sent out by Disney...I'm assuming that eventually they'll be broken up into individual character banners for the release of the film and I am so claiming the life-size RDJ and Chris Evans banners!!

84th Academy Miracle

Finally someone has come to their senses and we can now expect an entertaining Oscars ceremony.

This week the awards program lost both its producer and host, and has already replaced both. Whilst I don't care too much about the producer (no offence Brian Grazer), I do care about the host, and it has been confirmed by Variety (and the man himself) that Billy Crystal will be hosting the Oscars for the 9th time.

Below is the full press release regarding the change in host and I can tell you I'm not the only one who's relieved!!

Producers Brian Grazer and Don Mischer have announced that Billy Crystal will serve as host for the 84th Academy Awards.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Billy back to the Oscar® stage,” said Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Tom Sherak. “He’s a comic legend and Oscar icon, and it feels good to have him back where he belongs.”
Commented Grazer: “Like so many others, I’ve been eager to see Billy host again. It’s very gratifying that he agreed to do it with Don and me at the helm.”
Said Mischer: “With Billy, we’re moving forward with one of the greatest hosts in Oscar history. His return to the Oscars is, in a sense, a celebration.”
This will mark Crystal’s ninth time as host. Only Bob Hope has hosted more Academy Awards presentations, with 19 ceremonies between 1940 and 1978. Crystal last hosted the Academy Awards in 2004.
“Some of the best moments of my career have happened on the Oscar stage. I am thrilled to be back there. Actually, I am doing this so that the young woman in my pharmacy will stop asking me my name when I pick up my prescriptions,” said Crystal.
Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2011 will be presented on Sunday, February 26, 2012, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 200 countries worldwide.

Thank heavens for Billy Crystal. Now I am reconsidering going to the annual industry live screening and Oscars party...but first I'll have to find something to wear...

A FEW BEST MEN - trailer

A FEW BEST MEN stars homegrown hottie Xavier Samuel (THE LOVED ONES, ANONYMOUS, ECLIPSE) along with Olivia Newton-John and comedienne Rebel Wilson. There are also a couple of Brits thrown in the mix including Kris Marshall (EASY VIRTUE, DEATH AT A FUNERAL & LOVE ACTUALLY) and Kevin Bishop (MUPPET TREASURE ISLAND and RUSSIAN DOLLS).

A FEW BEST MEN hits Australian screens next year and although I can't say too much I will tell you to go and support this great Aussie film!

TIN TIN - Trailer

Opening Boxing Day this year, THE ADVENTURES OF TIN TIN is based on Herge's comics of the same name.

I watched the animated series when I was a kid and I'm sure there are plenty of other people who were the same, so I am interested to see how it pans out and whether it lives up to my rememberings.

So far I am not convinved on the animation, it looks way to CGI for my liking. Almost like they're trying to make it look as though the cartoon is actually real life or something. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but there's just something not quite right about it in my opinion. The opening title sequence, which I was lucky enough to get a sneak peak at a couple of weeks ago, is really good though and has the same feel that I remember from the old series.

As for the rest of the film...well I'm going to a sneaky premiere tomorrow night, so I'll let you know! Until then, here's the trailer;

SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN - Trailer

A while ago I posted some promo images for SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN and I was intrigued how this interpretation would pan out. Starring Kristen Stewart as Snow White, Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen and Chris Hemsworth as The Hunter SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN opens June 2012 (at this stage). The first official trailer aired this week and I'm now even more intrigued!

I'm not sold on the idea of Kristen Stewart based on her other feature roles...she's too annoying and always looks pouty and depressed, but I'm willing to give the film a go based on the rest of the cast alone. With a line up that includes not only Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth, but also Ian McShane, Toby Jones, Nick Frost and Bob Hoskins, how can you go wrong?

THIS MEANS WAR - Trailer

Starring Reese Witherspoon, Tom Hardy and Chris Pine this looks like a romantic comedy with a different twist. Check out the trailer and see what you think. I'm looking forward to it partly because of the storyling and partly because of Tom Hardy! THIS MEANS WAR opens Valentine's Day weekend 2012.
